Voltachem Power-2-X Tour Webinar: Electrochemical CO2 Utilization

On June 30th 2021 VoltaChem organized the second edition of the VoltaChem Power-2-X Tour. The topic: ‘Opportunities in electrochemical CO2 utilization: From high-value products to high-volume impact’. The talk show was broadcast live from Total Research & Technology Feluy, Belgium.

To reach climate targets, industries need to accelerate the transition towards a low-carbon, resource efficiency and circular economy. The chemical sector is one of the most challenging, but also a very promising one, in that context. At the forefront of waste reutilization, bio-based industries (BIs). Their table guests were Moritz Schreiber (TotalEnergies), Erica Ording (Avantium), and Anca Anastasopol (VoltaChem) and they discussed the challenges and opportunities of electrochemical CO2 conversion, and explored and compared different technological options for the production of both high-value and high-volume chemicals. Led by Host Jerre Maas and co-host Martijn de Graaff (VoltaChem) they also talked about topics like business cases, industry integration, and impact in the short- and long term. Adding to the table discussion was Professor David Sinton (University of Toronto) with a presentation on electrocatalytic conversion of CO2 to ethylene. Next to that, Wouter van Winden (DSM) and Karl Hauptmeier (Norsk e-Fuel) contributed with video pitches on their experience with CO2 utilization in industrial practice. It turned out to be an inspiring, interactive talk show with interesting insights and statements shared by the table guests.

On November 4th, we are organizing a hackathon on CCU. More specifically, we will explore the world of building materials that capture CO2 and store it permanently. The reason for organizing this hackathon is creating awareness of and knowledge about these solutions, that can help us achieve our public and private goals on CO2 reduction.

The CO2 Smart Use website aims to connect all parties involved in CCU in the Netherlands, whether they are national or international players. We are therefore looking for all businesses in the Netherlands who already work on CCU, what they do, and who they’d like to get into contact with. What do you have to offer for the Dutch context?

Mark can tell you all about the CCU network and would love to help you connect with other parties in the CCU industry!
